History
The Gye Nyame Empowerment Project (GNEP) was incorporated on February 13, 2007. The word Gye Nyame, pronounced Jean-Yuh-Me, comes from Ghana in West Africa and it symbolizes the supremacy of God. Although GNEP is not a faith-based organization, we do acknowledge that our successes are not accidents, but a result of something bigger than us.

Mission
The mission of GNEP is to recognize, celebrate, and examine issues pertaining to people of color, with an emphasis on those residing in underserved communities. The organization is dedicated to the education and advancement of people of color, and the development of the neighborhoods and communities they reside in through conferences, workshops and other social and educational mediums. Our vision is to provide a supportive network and forum that empowers the individual, the family and the community to meet their full potential.
Goals
The goals of GNEP are grounded in a basic principal noted by scholar Marianne Williamson: as people let their own light shine, they unconsciously give others permission to do the same.
